Unlocking the Power of Situating Tools

Imagine entering a classroom where the lines between the real world and digital activities blend effortlessly. Students are no longer passive users of knowledge, but rather active explorers in a huge, dynamic environment. This transforming environment is made possible by situating tools, a strong subset of instructional technology that places learners in real-world circumstances, allowing for immersive, experiential learning possibilities.  

In this classroom, situating tools function as both a time machine and a portal, taking students to many eras, locations, and perspectives. Imagine studying ancient Rome not only through textbooks, but also by walking around its bustling streets using a virtual reality (VR) headset. The instructor serves as a guide, enabling the journey by encouraging pupils to notice, explore, and reflect on what they see and hear. This interactive experience piques interest and expands understanding much beyond standard approaches.

In this technologically enriched setting, teachers serve as experience navigators and curators. They successfully incorporate placement tools into the curriculum to improve learning. Teachers construct environments in which students can explore, feel safely, and learn from their experiences by designing activities that incorporate augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), simulations, and geographic information systems (GIS). 


For example, a science instructor may utilize a simulation tool to model ecosystems, allowing students to adjust variables and witness the results. This hands-on approach encourages critical thinking and a better understanding of complicated subjects. Teachers lead students on virtual journeys, prompting them to ask questions, make predictions, and reflect on their learning experiences. 


Situating tools portray the future classroom in vibrant colors of possibilities. They shift education from a static transfer of knowledge to a dynamic exchange of experiences. Teachers, as navigators, design these experiences, guiding students through immersive environments where learning is vivid, engaging, and profound.

In this brave new world, the classroom walls dissolve, and the boundaries of learning extend far and wide. Students become not just learners but explorers, equipped with the skills, curiosity, and empathy to navigate both the digital and real worlds. Situating tools are not just technological advancements; they are the keys to unlocking a richer, more engaging educational experience. This is how I have created shapes using Geo Gebra: 

  1. Go to https://www.geogebra.org/ 
  2. Log in with your Gmail
  3. Then click on the calculators menu, select the graphic calculator option,        https://www.geogebra.org/graphing
  4. Draw Point A and B.










5. draw a circle centered at A
6. draw another circle centered at B












7. the two circle intersect at two points, we need the upper intersection point to find and label as C.












8. connect point A,B and C to form a triangle. 











9. Hide the circles by right-clicking and deselecting Show Object
10. Show output/ skill output.
