Middle level of ICT integration.

Middle level of ICT integration.

This virtual learning is worth learning as it provides ample opportunities, such as learning hands on experience regarding physics, chemistry, biology, math, and earth science. Such platform would provide safety for both the teacher and the students while carrying out the experiment or any activity which involves, current, sharp things and other hazardous activities. Moreover, as many school lacks materials for experiment, comfortable space for lab experiment therefore, implementing such learning tool can improve the teaching and learning in the school or anywhere.

Engaging with PhET simulations has been an enthralling experience for me, offering insights that I can seamlessly integrate into my future teaching endeavors. As a digital native learner, embracing PhET represents a significant milestone and an opportunity to enhance the educational experience through interactive and self-directed learning. Today's session delved into the Circuit Construction Kit: DC virtual lab, providing me with a hands-on exploration of how voltage fluctuates across various wires with changes in the number of wires and battery cells. Essentially, I gained firsthand understanding of how altering independent variables impacts dependent variables within DC circuits.

Reflecting on this experience, it's evident that PhET simulations not only facilitate understanding of abstract concepts but also encourage active exploration and discovery. By immersing students in virtual labs such as the Circuit Construction Kit, educators can foster deeper comprehension and engagement in science and technology topics. This interactive approach aligns well with modern pedagogical strategies, promoting inquiry-based learning and empowering students to take ownership of their educational journey. Overall, PhET serves as a valuable tool for transforming traditional classroom experiences into dynamic and enriching learning environments. The table below shows the result I found while conducting and experimenting the DC circuits.

As a teacher, adopting this platform or instructional strategy can significantly enhance students' comprehension and engagement in the classroom. Moreover, it effectively addresses challenges related to cost efficiency, space constraints, and time management within the school environment. By leveraging such innovative tools, educators can create more interactive and dynamic learning experiences, making the educational process more effective and accessible for all students.

The attached lesson plan is for integrating ICT in the classroom.

Lesson plan.

Class:  VI A Period: First period.  Topic: series circuit and parallel circuit.  Lesson objective: By the end of the lesson student should be able to;

  1.  define series circuit and parallel circuit correctly without the guidance of the teacher,

  2. demonstrate series circuit and parallel circuit accurately using PHeT simulation without discussing with friends, and

  3. choose the best circuit correctly without support from your friends and teacher.

Lesson introduction.

To begin the class I will firstly start with greetings such as (good morning how are you all, did you eat your breakfast?

Before diving into the explanation of series and parallel circuits, I will use Mentimeter to gauge the students' current understanding.

This interactive tool allows me to ask questions and receive real-time feedback, which helps in tailoring my instruction to address any misconceptions and build on their existing knowledge.

By engaging the students in this way, I can create a more effective and responsive learning environment.

After checking their prior knowledge I will ask questions such as:

  1. What is a switch?

  2. Have you seen two switches for one bulb?

After that I will supplement on their point to introduce the lesson.

Lesson development.

Lesson input:

  • To further clarify the concepts of series and parallel circuits, I will utilize the PHeT simulation tool. This interactive platform allows me to visually demonstrate key elements, such as switches, within these circuits. By using PHeT simulations, students can observe the behavior of circuits in real-time, enhancing their understanding of how switches operate in both series and parallel configurations. This hands-on approach helps to solidify their grasp of the concepts through interactive learning.

  5. Voltage

  6. Current

  • Click Here to join the PHeT simulation on series and parallel circuit.

  • After the demonstration and explanation of concepts students will be given a worksheet to be completed as an individual.

Activity I

  • Students are required to join the PHeT simulation by clicking on the link provided by the teacher (Click Here to join PHeT simulation). Once they access the simulation, they should complete the accompanying worksheet within 15 minutes. This structured activity ensures that students actively engage with the simulation and apply their knowledge to complete the tasks within the given timeframe.

  • The table below will be used for activity I

Lesson closure.

  • To conclude the lesson, I will conduct a quick review of series and parallel circuits by using Kahoot! This interactive quiz platform allows me to ask questions and assess students' understanding in a fun and engaging way. By incorporating Kahoot!, I can ensure that the key concepts are reinforced and that students leave the lesson with a solid grasp of the material.

  • Click Here to join Kahoot! for quiz on series and parallel circuit. After the quiz i will clear doubts if any.
